How the CPS test works
CPS stands for clicks per second. Choose a test length, then click inside the box as quickly as you can. The clock starts on your first click, so you never lose time getting ready. When time runs out we divide your total clicks by the number of seconds to get your CPS.
- Pick 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds.
- Click (or tap) the box to start the timer.
- Keep clicking until the clock hits zero.
- Check your CPS, your rank and your personal best for that length.
What is a good CPS?
Most people land somewhere around 5 to 8 clicks per second in a 5 second test. Here is how this test ranks your speed:
- Under 4 CPS — Sloth. Warming up. Try a shorter test first.
- 4 to 6 CPS — Turtle. A relaxed, everyday clicking pace.
- 6 to 8 CPS — Rabbit. Solid, right around typical.
- 8 to 10 CPS — Cheetah. Faster than most people.
- 10 to 12 CPS — Hawk. You probably practice.
- 12+ CPS — Lightning. Jitter or butterfly clicking territory.
Tips to click faster
- Rest your wrist on the desk and click with your fingertip, not your whole arm.
- Try the 1 second test a few times to find your burst speed, then build stamina with 10 and 30 seconds.
- Jitter clicking tenses the forearm so the finger vibrates on the button. Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same button. Both are fast but tiring, so take breaks.
- Speed is only half of it. Accurate timing wins games — practice it in Circle Clicker.
Frequently asked questions
What is a CPS test?
A CPS test measures how many times you can click your mouse or tap your screen per second. You click as fast as you can for a fixed time, and your total clicks are divided by the number of seconds.
Which test length should I use?
Short tests (1 or 5 seconds) measure burst speed. Longer tests (30 or 60 seconds) measure stamina, and most people's CPS drops as their hand tires.
Does it work on a Chromebook or phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser on Chromebooks, Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android. On a touchscreen every tap counts as a click.
Is my score saved?
Your best score for each test length is stored in your browser on this device. Nothing is uploaded and no account is needed.
